Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse (High Alpine Road)

The most famous alpine road of the Eastern Alps.

The Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse leads directly into the heart of the national park, Hohe Tauern, and to the Grossglockner, the highest mountain in Austria.

Just as people three and a half chiliads ago did, you will follow this unique mountain world of blooming pastures, fragrant woods, mighty cliffs and perpetual ice, up to the foot of the Grossglockner. What awaits you here is an astounding view of the longest glacier of the Eastern Alps: the Pasterze.

Watch the groundhogs scurry about right before your eyes - and, if you are lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of one of the powerful ibexes. Along the path you will always find information about the fascinating world of the mountains, animals and plants.
